School has opened! PDF Print

Monday 9th January 2011:

My computer has had a virus and has been unusable so sorry I haven't updated. Our big news today is school has opened again for another year. The kids were all excited to go.

We had some of our 4 year olds starting baby class. It is hard to believe they are already old enough! Tim Tam, Poopy, Miriam, and Shiko all enjoyed their first day of big school.

There was much excitement in the morning receiving their uniforms and being a part of what they see the big kids do all the time.

By the time yum yums was over and all the kids started to line up to head over to school Tim Tam and Poopy were having second thoughts.....

Shiko and Miriam however, were taking the whole first day at school thing in their stride. Anyone that knows them wont be surprised by that at all!!

Above: Don't let those angelic faces fool you.....here they are at school assembly "standing quietly" listening to the head teacher!

Thank fully Kat, who is a school teacher in Australia, took them into their class room where they all settled in nicely. Tim Tam and Poopy were a lot more confident and even started smiling again.

They remained happy for the rest of the day. They walked back for lunch time yum yums and were very happy about hearing they would be returning tomorrow.

The rest of the kids were happy to be back at school. They had all moved up a class and were very eager to let you know that. Some of them had new teachers as now the school is growing we have just employed four more.

What we would really love is volunteer teachers to help us oversee the running of the school. If you are a teacher and have a month or more to spare we would love for you to come out and help with the running of our school.  We would like you to sit in on classes and ensure the teaching methods are strong, and look over the children's work and see that what they are learning is appropriate for their age. Our school must follow the Kenyan School Curriculum but I am sure there is a lot that many of you can share to help our kids get the best education we can give.

If you are interested in helping at the school please email me for more details.

PS...If one of your sponsor children is one of the babies that started school I will email you a full set of their first day photos. Just give me a little time as I am leaving to travel home Thursday and I am frantically busy these last couple of days.
